About the Artist

Born in Canada, Jane grew up intrigued by the innate natural beauty of her surroundings, and explored this fascination through a variety of creative outlets. As a child, she was inspired by her mother's beautiful handwriting and the frequency and ease at which her mother could draw anything at anytime. Jane found joy and solace in drawing and painting, which served to deepen her passion and admiration for the arts. Having started with pencils and paper, over the years Jane refined her craft into a unique, sophisticated, and detailed method of painting in watercolours and in oils. Drawing on the likes of Emily Carr, Georgia O’Keeffe, Tom Thompson and the Group of Seven, Jane is inspired by the subtlety of simplistic strokes and celebrates the enormous range of soft and rich coloured pigments.

Jane’s work revolves around exploring relationships. From the physical colour relationships explored in her vibrant watercolours, to the connections between humans and their botanical surroundings.

Currently, Jane resides in Dubai, UAE with her husband & dog and escapes to her secluded family cottage in Ontario cottage country with her four children and her extended family during the warm summer months. Tucked away in her second floor art studio in Dubai, Jane is accompanied by the sounds of the ocean waves crashing on the shore; surrounded by endless bouts of inspiration on each of the four walls and sunlight peeping through the two windows. While living at the cottage, Jane works from her make-shift home studio in a tent canopy. Listening to the sounds of the trees brushing against each other in the wind, she instinctively weaves together fragmented pieces of light and colour to tell a story that excites the viewer.

As a self-taught artist, Jane consistently strives to reconnect with her inner child-like passions, finding beauty in the creative process. Jane values exploring colour relationships, intentionally ensuring that each stroke has a purpose. In recent years, Jane has shown great commitment to her craft; captivating her audience with rich vibrant pieces, one she looks forward to continuing.
